Every mother has ancient wisdom in them…

I’m here to help you tap into it, with the help of my doula and lactation services

Evidence-based care meets your motherly intuition

Women are capable and powerful — and when it comes to bringing new life into the world, women have an instinct, an ancient wisdom, that tells them exactly what they need to do to bring their child into this world.

It’s my honor to help women tap into this sacred space and advocate for it throughout their hospital or birthing center experience. Studies and our own experiences show that women who are supported before, during, and after birth have better outcomes, which is why I offer support at all stages of the pregnancy and postpartum experience.

A new approach to your birth experience

When you work with me, I’ll help you tap into the ancient wisdom that all birthing people hold, and help you create the vision for your birth plan. I’ll work with you and your medical care team (if you have one) to ensure that you have everything you need to birth successfully.

I’ve helped hundreds of moms with delivery, both in my work as a doula and as an obstetrical surgical technician at Henry Ford Hospital. I can help you navigate the entire experience, from creating your birth plan to adjusting the plan if needed during birth. I also support birthing people with education, comforting skills, visualizations and meditations, and other tools to help them navigate the experience.

As a spiritual, holistic doula, it’s my goal to help ensure your birthing experience is calming and professional.

The intersection of science + ancient wisdom

Only about 32% of women report having a positive childbirth experience — and I’m positive that number decreases drastically for women of color and pregnant people from marginalized groups (although, there’s no research to back me up — shocking). However, studies show that women and individuals who are educated about the childbirth experience are more likely to report positive outcomes and believe they receive better treatment in a maternity ward setting.

Here at Ancient Wisdom Birth Services, I want to make sure that you can craft your birth vision and have that reflected in your care plan. I also believe that, by educating women and families on the childbirth experience and explaining the medical terminology surrounding birth, we can balance a natural birth with our traditional healthcare expectations.

It all comes down to autonomy and empowerment: I want to help you advocate for the birth experience that you want.

About Nyasia

As a certified doula and lactation educator, I provide educational and emotional support birth and postpartum services to mothers and families in the Detroit area (and to anyone online).

As a mother of three myself, and as an obstetrical surgical technician, I trust the innate wisdom every mother carries to birth their baby. I endeavor to inspire women to birth without fear through my educational and in-person or virtual doula experiences. I also believe in the importance of postpartum care and support for moms and families, which is why I also offer lactation support and postpartum home help.

I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan and I’m a mother of three. It was my own traumatic birth experience that led me to enter the healthcare field. Since working in healthcare, my passion for birth equity and justice has only increased, and I’m dedicated to reducing the maternal and infant mortality rates for families in Metro Detroit, and improving the breastfeeding initiation and exclusivity rates.

I’ve been a birth doula since 2014, an OB surgical technician since 2019, and will sit for the IBCLC certification exam in September 2022. On top of my work in the hospital and my work as a doula, I volunteer at local domestic and homeless teenage shelters throughout Metro Detroit to help educate young girls and women on pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding.

An inclusive birth experience for all

I believe that bringing life into this world is sacred. While I may use terms like “pregnant women,” “birthing moms,” and “pregnant people,” “birthing people,” and “parents” interchangeably, please know that we are welcoming and accepting of all identities and walks of life. I am not trying to exclude anyone’s experience!

I also know the discrepancies in care for people in marginalized communities, which is why I’m on a mission to provide support, education, and guidance to all birthing people and families.
